My name is Siobhan Keegan and I am a California based visual designer and illustrator with experience working and studying in the USA, UK and Japan. Currently a senior, majoring in Visual Communication Design at San Francisco State University.
Before falling in love with design I spent four years studying Geography, an experience that has helped shape and influence my understanding of human culture and interaction, whilst allowing me to observe designs use within the structured, scientific field of humanities.
I am constantly inspired design’s unique forms of communication and problem solving across platforms and cultures. My work is often influenced by human stories, emotion and philosophy.
After I graduate I hope to continue to have opportunities to travel, create and support human connection, business and storytelling through my art and designs.

Siobhan, Welcome to DES 505!
ReplyDeleteWhat would be ONE (if not two, or three) of your desired, or preferred DES Project Area of Interests, or designated Proposal(s)?
Hi Professor Gomes! I am really interested in working on the virtual gallery space for Climate Creative. I have also been looking into building a game in Unity to help with mental health and social isolation in quarantine.
DeleteHi Siobhan!!! I love the quote that you included in your bio! I think it is beautiful and definitely embodies an ideology that I like to keep in mind of just creating and not putting limitations on yourself and that sometimes things won't be perfect and that's okay! I have had a couple of classes with you so far and have loved all of the projects that Ive been able to witness so I can not wait to see more of your work in the class :)
ReplyDeleteHi Monica, so glad you like the quote! I was really inspired and felt empowered as a creative the first time I heard it. Thank you so much, I can't wait to see more of your work too!! :)
DeleteHi Siobhan, What made you fall in love with design? Was it just like a switch in your mind to do design or was it multiply things that lead you to design?
ReplyDeleteHi Jose, growing up I loved to draw and create but was always told not to pursue it as a career. Then, after my first semester at SFSU, I got to see all the amazing fields and mediums designers get to work in and really began to fall in love with design. ^_^
DeleteHello! I love how you have experience working/studying outside the US, that sounds so fun. Your quote really stood out to me because we really shouldn't have limitations on ourselves, we can probably do so much more than we think we can.
ReplyDeleteHi Isabel, I totally agree that we shouldn't put so many limits on ourselves and what we create. I often worry that I am not doing enough or overthink a design that didn't work, so that quote was really meaningful to me. :)
DeleteHello Siobhan, it is very interesting to know that you studied geography before. Maybe geography an design are more related than I thought since a drawing, photography, illustration, etc. can be very useful for that profession.
ReplyDeleteHi William, it is amazing how connected design is with other fields! I am really looking forward to seeing how everyones utilizes design for different projects this semester. ^_^
DeleteHey Siobhan! I really enjoyed reading your bio, its very informative and detailed. I especially loved the quote by Oprah you included. You have a very interesting take on design and being open minded is a very good quality to have in the design world especially!
ReplyDeleteHi Rebecca, thank you for your kind comments! Looking forward to working with you this semester! :D
DeleteHi Siobhan! What a beautiful bio. I really loved how you mentioned human connection and story telling. It is also so cool that you studied in the UK and Japan, both of this places have such amazing design. Were you inspired by any of the art or design in Japan? From what I have heard and seen, it is amazing, I have always wanted to go there!
ReplyDeleteHi Sabrina! Thank you so much! Japan was a huge inspiration to me, especially how efficiently the cities are designed, and how much care and attention to detail is placed into every-day life. Living there really took my breath away and I would recommend it to anyone. :D
DeleteHey Siobhan! That is amazing that you have design experience in other countries! What kind of work did you do there? I also think it is really great that you have a background in geography. In what ways have you incorporated this background into your design work?
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah! I am currently working for a winery in Santa Cruz and in Japan I worked in a rural care home as a care assistant for people with disabilities. I grew up in a really small town in the UK and am so grateful for the opportunities to work and study in different countries. Geography, particularly human geography, inspired my interest in human connection and interaction which I try to incorporate into my designs. I am also hoping to combine my passion for design and physical geography in my final project, potentially building a gallery space for the Climate Creative. I am excited to potentially use design to help promote and educate climate issues/solutions. :D
